Attendance

At Beverley St Nicholas Primary School, we believe it is vitally important that children attend school every day so they can fully benefit from the rich and carefully planned curriculum on offer. Regular attendance plays a key role in supporting children’s learning, wellbeing and long‑term outcomes.

Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure their children receive full‑time education, and we see attendance as a shared responsibility between school and families. Strong attendance and punctuality habits help children to succeed in their learning and reach their full potential.

Missing school can result in missed learning opportunities, disruption to routines and gaps in understanding, which can impact on children’s progress over time. For this reason, we work closely and positively with parents, alongside our School Business Manager, Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) and other agencies where appropriate, to offer early support and guidance when attendance concerns arise.

We have high expectations that children attend school every day and arrive on time. Holidays during term time should be avoided wherever possible and are not authorised. Punctuality is crucial, as persistent lateness can affect a child’s learning and disrupt the start of the school day for both the pupil and their class.

We are also committed to celebrating good attendance. Children achieving 100% attendance and 97% attendance are recognised with certificates, alongside Dojo points as a reward, to encourage and reinforce positive habits.

If you experience any difficulties that may affect your child’s attendance, please contact school as early as possible so that we can work together to support you and your child.

Reporting your child’s absence

If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, please telephone the school as soon as possible on the day of absence. Parents and carers may leave a voicemail on the absence line outside of office hours.

Any absence that is not explained will be recorded as unauthorised.

Registers are completed promptly at the start of the school day. Any child who is not present when the register is returned to the school office will be marked absent.

If a child arrives late, they must report to the school office so that their arrival can be recorded.
