Nursery

At Beverley St Nicholas Primary School we have a 26 place nursery for children aged 3 years and upwards in the morning.

Attendance at our nursery is for 15 hours of free provision. Children can start attending our nursery the term after they turn 3 and we have intakes in autumn, spring and summer.

We currently have FS1(nursery) places available – please contact us if you would like to come for a visit or would like more information about how to register for a place.

Our Foundation Stage unit is situated at the front of the school building and has a dedicated outdoor area and large and airy indoor space in which we seek to value and nurture the children’s curiosity, creativity and desire to make sense of the world.

We also give time for their thoughts and ideas, and value their work, their conversations and their feelings. We want to give them the best possible start and our highly experienced team know exactly the skills they will need in order to really fly when they get to school.

The children also have the opportunity to join with the children in the Reception class (Foundation Stage 2) each day during continuous provision. We do this as we know it allows for a smoother transition when officially starting school. The children get to continue to develop their relationships with not only their friends who may have just missed moving into the next year but also this ensures their well being is high and therefore the children are more ready to learn.

Wild Classroom– One morning a week we go onto the field for our Wild Classroom activities. We will be out in all weathers. On this day, please send you child to school in joggers, school top and help them into their suits and wellies before you leave. Wellies and a puddlesuit would be useful every day and can be left at school. We do have spares for you to borrow too.

In our group time sessions we explore the nursery elements of the school-wide Little Wandle phonics scheme based around the three elements: Love of Sounds, Love of Reading and Love of Language. This provides a solid phonics foundation for our children.

Talk for Writing is our school-wide programme that puts rhyme and story at the heart of our language development activities. Building pictorial story maps and learning an oral story together alongside the high-quality core texts that we share daily brings the language and pattern of stories to life. The core books are also the books we can bring home weekly to share together at home. The school follows the White Rose maths scheme and the Robins follow the themes of the nursery programme.
