At St Nick’s, our geography curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Develop curiosity about the world, its people, places and environments
• Build secure locational and place knowledge, from the local area to the wider world
• Understand key physical and human geographical processes, and how they shape the world we live in
• Use maps, atlases, globes and digital mapping confidently to interpret geographical information
• Take part in meaningful fieldwork, observing, measuring and recording features of the local environment
• Ask and investigate geographical questions, developing enquiry, reasoning and problem‑solving skills
• Communicate their findings clearly, using maps, diagrams, data and written explanations
• Recognise how places are connected, and how environments change over time
• Develop respect and responsibility for the planet, understanding sustainability and human impact

• We make meaningful cross‑curricular links, helping children connect their geographical understanding with learning in subjects such as science, history and English.
• We revisit key knowledge regularly, enabling pupils to build a secure, long‑term understanding of important geographical concepts.
• Each classroom has an up‑to‑date geography working wall, displaying key vocabulary, enquiry questions and essential knowledge for the current topic.
• We teach geography weekly or in focused blocks, depending on the topic and the needs of our learners, ensuring depth and progression.
• We develop both disciplinary skills and substantive knowledge, helping children learn how geographers think, question, investigate and interpret the world.
• We aim to nurture a lifelong curiosity about people, places and environments, encouraging pupils to explore and make sense of the world around them.
