Behaviour and Positive Relationships

At Beverley St Nicholas Primary School, we are committed to creating a calm, safe and positive learning environment where all children can flourish. High standards of behaviour support effective learning and help children to develop confidence, resilience and respect for others.

Our behaviour approach is rooted in our school values of Community, Nurture, Respect and Resilience. We have clear expectations which are consistently applied across school and are supported by a well‑sequenced behaviour policy. Staff follow agreed steps to ensure fairness, consistency and clarity for all pupils.

We believe that behaviour is a form of communication and therefore place a strong emphasis on early intervention, close monitoring and additional support where necessary. Where children need further help to meet behaviour expectations, we work proactively with families and put individual support strategies in place to help pupils succeed.

How We Reward Positive Behaviour

At Beverley St Nicholas Primary School, we believe that positive behaviour should be recognised, celebrated and reinforced. Our reward systems are designed to motivate children, promote pride and encourage them to make positive choices.

Children are awarded Dojo points for consistently:
  • Demonstrating our school values of Community, Nurture, Respect and Resilience
  • Working hard and showing resilience in their learning
  • Behaving appropriately and respectfully
  • Making positive choices that support learning and relationships
Dojo points can be collected and then ‘spent’ in our St Nicks Swap Shop, where children can choose from a range of rewards. This system has proved to be extremely successful and is highly valued by pupils. Children respond very positively to it and see it as a meaningful reward for sustained effort, good behaviour and positive attitudes.

By rewarding behaviour in this way, we help children to develop self‑regulation, responsibility and motivation, while reinforcing our core values across school life.

Behaviour Policy

Our approach to behaviour is guided by our Behaviour Policy, which sets out clear expectations, consistent routines and agreed steps for managing behaviour. This ensures fairness, consistency and support for all pupils.

Staff follow the policy closely, with a strong focus on:
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Clear expectations
  • Close monitoring
  • Early intervention and additional support where needed
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s behaviour or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact the school so that we can work together to provide the best possible support.
